East Afton is an 18th-century farmhouse situated on a working farm. It has a long and fascinating history, having served as the home of farming families at East Afton, the site of the Isle of Wight Festival in 1970, and, more recently, as a popular weddings and events venue.

We have strived to capture the essence of what draws people to East Afton, creating a space that celebrates art, history, and, most importantly, people.

From the outset, it was important for us to respect the historic connection to the land. Each decision came back to the question: Does it feel authentic, and could it have been here originally? From the colour palette to the materials and forms used, we drew inspiration from the building's history.

As a thriving events venue, we were mindful that the interiors needed to serve as a versatile backdrop. The bespoke, softly curved dressing table in the bridal suite was designed to provide a comfortable space where the ritual of getting ready for a wedding could be enjoyed alongside friends and family. The soft plaster pink wall colour was chosen for its flattering tone, ideal for those all-important wedding photos. Throughout the project, the colour palette was inspired by the surrounding landscape. With coastal views on one side and farmland on the other, we combined elements from both to set the tone.

Each space has been designed to have its own identity while maintaining an overarching concept woven throughout the entire project. The attic bedrooms were created to feel as though you are resting among the canopy of the surrounding trees. Featuring a darker, more enveloping colour palette than the rest of the house, these rooms incorporate soft, natural materials such as silk, cotton, and linen, ensuring each space feels like a cosy retreat.

We worked with some existing furniture, blending antiques, repurposed pieces, and carefully chosen new additions to gently rework the interiors while preserving the original charm.
